When performed on the Balance Beam, a
Back
Handspring should start with legs together, but may
either continue through to a
Lunge
position, or land with legs together.
The gymnast must start with arms overhead or in front,
and jump backward while
arching
the back. As the
feet leave the beam, the back remains arched until the hands
arrive on the beam. At
that time, the feet either split or remain together, and snap
downward to the beam, arriving in a Lunge or together.
