LEVEL
6 - States Championship - Fall 2003 Pelz
Gym, SCSU, New Haven, CT
The
USAG Connecticut State Championships took place on Sunday,
December 14, and Gymnastics Revolution was there.
The strongest group of gymnasts in the compulsory
levels, Megan, Lizzie, and
Katie stepped into the arena with
their eyes on the prize.
The
girls were split into two groups.
Lizzie started on Floor Exercise, while Megan and
Katie started on the Bars.
Katie was sidelined suddenly, due to illness. Megan forged on, and started the day with a first place
finishing 9.15. Meanwhile, on the Floor, Lizzie was hitting
her first event as well.

On the
Beam, Megan wobbled only twice, the rest of the routine was
perfection. The
score, 9.1, was enough to once again take first place in the
State. Lizzie
moved on to Vault, and as the first competitor of the squad,
nailed a 9.4 vault, taking a small hop on the landing.
She had set the bar for the day, and no higher score
would be gotten.
Lizzie
moved to her strongest event, Bars, while Megan began
warming up on Floor. With
only one form break in the routine, Lizzie was solid,
scoring a 8.85, earning herself second place.
Megan hit her routine, with a perfectly stuck
dismount, and scored 9.1, also good for second place.

On the Balance Beam, a few
wobbles kept Lizzie from medalling, but her solid event
performances landed her in the 6th spot for the
All Around. Megan
again showed the State that Gymnastics Revolution’s
vaulters are second to none, with a 9.3.
Megan’s first place finishes on 3 of 4 events left
no doubt that she was the State Champion in the All Around.
Congratulations, Megan and Lizzie, we expect
continued success in the future!
