Level 6 State Championship June 6, 2004

“This was the Gymnastics Revolution Show,” remarked a shocked parent and spectator. The end of the second session of Level 6 State Championships at the University of Bridgeport brought an awards ceremony dominated by the 13 and Over Gymnastics Revolution girls, Katie, Christine, and Jessica.

“I knew our athletes had been consistent today, but I was surprised by our presence on the award stand..” Coach Brian Bakalar reveled in his gymnasts’ accomplishments. “Two State Champions in one day, I couldn’t ask for more from these talented gymnasts.”

The morning session saw Lizzie competing in the 11 year old age group.  Floor Exercise went smoothly, and Lizzie’s 8.6 would start her off solidly. On the vault, Lizzie jumped out ahead of the rest of the state with a 9.475, good for 1st place. Over on the Bars Lizzie was again rock solid for another 1st place finish.

The afternoon session went in almost the same fashion, with Katie, Jessica, and Christine beginning on Floor. Event after event, the three girls came up with solid performances, and after 3 events, Katie was in 1st place, and Jessica and Christine were in a dead heat, tied for second. The balance beam was particularly strong for Katie and Jessica, although the strongest event for all three girls was undoubtedly Floor Exercise, where they placed 1-2-3.

The end results: Lizzie: Level 6 11 Year Old All-Around State Champion. Katie: Level 6 13 and Older State Champion. Jessica: Level 6 13 and Up All-Around Runner-up. Christine: Level 6 All-Around 8th place.
In the team award, the Gymnastics Revolution Level 6 team had its work cut out for it. With only 5 gymnasts, they were at a severe disadvantage. Almost every other team in the State had several scores to choose from when calculating its total. Gymnastics Revolution would rely on every single score. Lack of depth didn’t translate to lack of success on this day though, the Gym Rev girls came up with a 4th place team finish, placing them squarely on the podium with the larger teams from NEGX, Gym World, and Wininger’s. Gymnastics Revolution stood above teams from Lakewood Trumbull Y, American, Darien YMCA, Shoreline, and Zero Gravity. Congratulations Gym Rev, a long season of hard work clearly paid off!
