Gymnastics Revolution
Level 7 & 8 Team Compete At The Rhode Island
Invitational December 4,2005.
All eyes were
on them as they entered the gymnasium at the University
of Rhode Island. Many teams had seen Allie, Taylor,
Alanna, Lizzie, Destiny, and Rachel in their successful
year last year as Level 7’s. Many teams had heard about
this team from Gym Rev winning all four events in the
Team Competition at the State Championships. But was it
a fluke?
With new
skills to debut, the girls were nervous. They were
without Rachel, who was training at TOPs A camp in
Houston for the weekend. They were about to perform
tsukaharas, double flyaways, and handspring series that
were brand new. And they knew that people were
watching, and watching carefully.
The girls
started on Beam, and although they were a bit shaky,
they got off to a good start, with routines packed with
difficulty. Despite a few falls, the girls were back in
“meet mode.”
Moving to the
Floor, Lizzie led the way with a 9.1. The judges
commented that the routines were catchy and
entertaining, and looked strong, considering how early
in the season it was. |

On the
Vault, 4 of the girls turned brand new Tsukahara in competition,
all successfully. Lizzie’s vault took second place, while
Alanna’s tied for first.
And then
the girls chalked up for bars, which would prove to be their
best event. Allie would go on to win the event, while the other
girls turned in solid routines, highlighted by Alanna’s hot
dismount.
Up
against many seasoned level 8’s, the girls were excited to
accept the fourth place trophy in the team standings, and proud
of their teammates, who stood tall at their new level of
competition.
In the
Level 7 competition, Katie had to reach back to her earliest
days in competitive gymnastics to get through her day. As a
level 4, years ago, Katie often found herself competing alone,
without teammates. Once again, there she was, with only her
coach by her side. But Katie’s focus and determination were
there, as she hit four out of four routines, and a career best
36.35. Congratulations, Katie, on a job well done! |
