Gym Revolution
Optional Team Competes At The I Love NY Cup,
Binghamton,NY. February 3-4, 2006
The 2006 I
Love NY Cup was a sight to behold. By now, most of the
nation has heard of this meet, the largest in Region
Six, held by Southern Tier Gymnastics Academy. The level
of the meet has increased over the years, and the
excitement of the competition for both competitors and
spectators has reached all time high levels.
Mohini
Bhardwaj, Olympic silver medalist, was on hand for the
second year in a row. Instead of a demonstration on the
balance beam this year, she roared into the arena on the
back of a Harley Davidson, and challenged Jake Blues,
member of the famed Blues Brothers to a gymnastics
show-down. Level 10’s from Atlantic, STGA, GTC
Rochester, Aerials, and many other top clubs ran into
the arena under blaring music and spotlights, and then
engaged in a top-level competition.
In the thick
of that competition, Gymnastics Revolution’s only level
10, Hope, pushed the difficulty of her routines to
higher levels. She ended up 7th place in the
All Around, and became a 2-time 9.0 Club member with her
scores on Beam and Floor.

The level 9’s, who
had competed previously, were also impressive. Mollie missed an
All Around title by only .175 points, and she plans to move up
from 2nd place to first in the near future. Her
silver medal on the beam, despite a fall, impressed her coaches,
but the gold on floor was her best score of the night, a 9.375.
But even Mollie was overshadowed by teammate Maddie at the I
Love NY Cup. Maddie was near perfect on the Vault, and her bar
routine was her best to date. Her beam and floor coach, Dawn,
declared without a fall on the beam, Maddie would have been in
first or second place All Around. “She’s our diamond in the
rough,” stated Dawn. “And she’s one to watch!”
The Level 8’s were,
quite simply, dominant. The confident team of 6 gymnasts, all
new to the level this year, went out and put together a
performance that they could be proud of. While they were not
perfect, these 6 gymnasts amassed 17 scores of 9.0 or better.
Both Rachel and Alanna won All Around gold medals, and every one
of the girls placed 4th or higher in the All Around. Allie hit
4 out of 4 routines, as did Taylor, and both Allie and Rachel
had scores higher than a 9.5! Lizzie showed great poise, and
despite a fall and only an 8.95 on Bars, came back strong for
the rest of her meet. Destiny showed steady improvement, and
with a third place AA, she gets better with each meet. The
Level 8 team won the team award, with nearly 7 points to spare,
a margin that is unheard of in the sport. Truly, the Level 8’s
from Gym Rev are a special group. |

The Level 7’s, led by Katie,
were the first of the Gym Rev girls to compete over the weekend. While
Erin showed her usual grace and coolness in competition, and Katie
continued her ways through a strong season, Marissa was the standout,
with the team’s highest vault score (along with Katie), a 8.75. Her All
Around score improved more than 2 points over the last meet and Marissa
is showing the confidence in herself that her coaches have been excited
to see develop.
All of the girls deserve
congratulations at what may have been Gymnastics Revolution’s most
successful meet ever!
