Connecticut Level 9 &10
State Championships March 12, 2006.
Gymnastics
Revolution – On the scene…
Not since
2002, and Kristen Riffanacht’s sweep of the State and
Regional Championships, has high level gymnastics been
so exciting at Gymnastics Revolution. But it’s a new
era at Gym Rev, and it has been ushered in by the State
Championship meet of March 12.
With 5
gymnasts in the Level 9 and 10 Connecticut State
Championships, Gym Rev had 2 goals: One, to qualify as
many as possible to the Regional Championships, with a
score of 34.00, and Two, to take home another Individual
State Title. With key players in almost every age group
at the meet, Gym Rev’s hopes were high.
The
Level 9 competition had three competitors from Gym Rev.
Mollie and Maddie, new to Level 9 this year, would be in
the hotly contested Junior age division, and Alex,
battling back from injuries, would be in the Senior A
division. A fall on the balance beam kept Alex from
winning the event, and without an error on the floor
exercise, Alex was in the running for a medal there too.

She took
home the bronze medal in the All Around, and everyone was glad
to see her positive attitude on the awards stand, despite the
realization that the gold was almost hers! Maddie and Mollie
both had great meets as well – they started on Vault, and moved
to Bars, and Maddie was on fire. With her big bar routine,
everyone saw Maddie for the powerful gymnast she has become this
year. Mollie started her meet a little slower, but turned it on
after bars, and cleanly won both Beam and Floor Exercise, and
landed in third place All Around. All three Gym Rev Level 9’s
qualified easily to the Regional Championships, which will take
place in Syracuse, NY, March 31 – April 2, 2006.
The
Level 10’s competed in the afternoon, after their Level 9
teammates. Hope and Mallory confidently strode into the gym,
and began their warm ups. The state has come to know Hope this
year, and her signature poise and clean gymnastics are always
enjoyable for coaches and spectators to watch. Mallory was the
unknown for the meet, being new to the Gym Rev team, and
remaining virtually unseen since last year’s Regional
Championships. Neither girl will be unseen or unnoticed again,
after their 4th place and 2nd place
finishes. In fact, it is safe to say that both Hope and Mallory
will be watched very closely for the years to come. Mallory was
powerful and aggressive all day, and took the gold on Floor
Exercise with a 9.35. Hope was clean and graceful, she
performed the meet’s hardest vault, a tucked yurchenko with a
full twist, and competed her best Floor Routine of the year.
Both girls will join their teammates at the Regional
Championships in Syracuse, and all of these gymnasts will be
pure excitement in the years to come at Gymnastics Revolution! |
