2004 US CLASSIC        ROCHESTER, New York.

US CLASSIC - DAY TWO
Rochester, NY, and the Blue Cross Arena were home to the US Classic Gymnastics Championships for 2004. The top stars from the United States field of International Elites were on hand, competing for those precious few spots in the selection process for the Olympic Games.

After an intense training period in the morning, Saturday evenings competition was fast paced, and highly energetic. Ashley Postell and Courtney Kupets competed only two events each, leaving the field wide open for top stars such as Holly Vise, Tia Orlando, Kristal Uzelac, and Nicole Harris.

Relative newcomer Annie DiLuzio took top honors on Vault scoring a 9.325. Following Vault, it was the Holly Vise show on Bars and Beam. A 9.6 and 9.65, respectively, were the top scores. On bars, Vise tied with Kupets, and on Beam, she was head and shoulders above the next highest competitor.

A common sports theme, “slow but steady wins the race,” or even the more appropriate “consistency is key” concept found its way into the US Classic. Tia Orlando moved through her day without a hitch, and with barely an error. She performed evenly on three events, and on floor, she attacked, scoring a meet winning 9.575. Without a weak event, and relying on her huge score on Floor, Orlando took home the title as the 2004 US Classic Champion, and solidified her chances for the US Olympic Team in Athens!
